For the traveler, Galapagos and
the country of Ecuador are overflowing with
enchantments. Our goal at Come To
Galapagos LLC. is to provide easy, safe
and comfortable access to these enchantments
along with the flexibility to handle just about
any request. Family reunions, destination
weddings, conferences, better than a guide book
written by someone passing through, we live here
and constantly monitor not only our own services
here in the Galapagos, but also on the
continent.
Other Islands
San Cristobal is just one of the nineteen
islands and forty-two islets that make up the
Galapagos Archipelago. Each have there own
unique qualities. Cruise tours offer the
opportunity to see as many as six or eight of
them in as many days. Some of the trade offs are
a somewhat culturally sterile social experience
(you spend the majority of your time with other
tourists), a rather claustrophobic living
arrangement and a couple of hours traipsing
around a desert island is hardly a way to get to
appreciate its beauty. "They all begin to look
the same after a while".
That being said, the majority of our groups customized tours involve
travel to at least one other island. There are a few things not
available on San Cristobal. Penguins, Flamingos,
Flightless Cormorants and active volcanoes.
There are also a number of sub species of birds
and turtles that only the most studious
naturalist would miss.
There are two ways to reach the other islands,
small plane flights and boat trips.
-
Plane flights are an
economical use of time and the
vistas from these planes are
impressive. Few people get to see
the Galapagos Islands from the air.
The inter-island airline serves only
two of the other islands: Santa
Cruz, the most populated island with
the largest town, Puerto Aroyo and
Isabella, the largest island which
has the charming village of Puerto
Villamil, the penguins and
flamingos.
-
Boat trips if the
ocean cooperates can be
exhilarating. Often dolphins and
Orcas can be seen. A boat trip to
Santa Cruz, Isabella or Floreana
(the only three islands with
accommodations) will likely include
a snorkel or dive side trip at
another small nearby island. If the
ocean is not cooperating, traveling
by boat can be time consuming and
uncomfortable.
